FELLOWSHIP

There is a notion among many Christians today that you can do the Christian life alone, and that tuning into a church online and watching a sermon from your couch on Sunday morning is the same as going to church. That is a lie straight from Satan.

The truth is, God has given you other believers to encourage you and spur you on in your walk with Christ, and apart from them, your faith might survive, but it certainly won’t thrive.

“Joining a local church isn’t simply one aspect of your Christian life. The local church is the primary context where you live out your Christian discipleship.”

—Sam Emadi

Being a disciple of Jesus—and making disciples for Jesus—takes place in the context of the local church. The Navigator Wheel and the various spiritual disciplines and rhythms that we’ve discussed so far all turn on the vehicle of the local church.

Here are the different levels of Christian fellowship that we recommend you have in your life:

  • Weekly attend a large group worship service at a Bible preaching, gospel-centered church.

  • Be a part of a small group if that’s the model that your church uses.

  • Have someone discipling you one-on-one.

  • Be discipling someone one-on-one.

As you prioritize the above areas, fellowship tends to occur organically and naturally (more so than the other spiritual disciplines on the Navigator Wheel).
